Music and Art

One of the more interesting questions students ask me is, “What sort of music do you listen to Professor Eismont?” Well currently I am listening to Nahko & Medicine for the People.

I also want to know what my students are listening to, which is surprisingly similar music to what I listen to. I want to hear the playlists of what visual artist listen to. I can conjure a scene of Jean-Michel Basquiat, painting away to Jazz music. Why is music so important and how does it relate to art? Most people could relate a painting to a music movement, Basquiat’s work has a Jazz feel to it. It is improvised. But beyond that music makes artist work. We play it to keep our bodies and minds energized. We play it to think deeper into our work.

Artist post your playlists below. What do you listen to when you make art?
